when i go paddleboarding, i bring a garbage picker, gloves, water shoes and a garbage bag or container with me to pick up any trash i see in the bay.  i also go to destinations that are only accessible through the water to clean up the trash found there.  i find that ocean clean ups don’t have to be formal, large or even organized.  they can be solo and casual.

i’ve incorporated these clean up elements into my paddleboarding experience and hope that others will too.

in my community we have different options for recycling.  i created a small guide for recycling to simplify how to recycle like a pro in Miami.  what i learned is that in order to recycle as efficiently as possible we have to take advantage of not only our city’s recycling program but also local businesses that provide recycling options that enhance what the city can do.  for Miami, i included publix and whole foods as supplemental recycling locations.

my family and i live a very active lifestyle so running, biking and walking around my neighborhood are things we do almost on a daily basis.  during these activities, i like to bring my glove or trash picker and do small solo clean ups.  i learned that people are less likely to litter in areas that are very clean so i try to leave the streets of Miami cleaner than i found them if i’m out.  if i can be the example and keep my city clean, then my spirit will be clean.  #cleancitycleanspirit

as consumers we have the power to support companies that are aligned with environmental protection efforts by choosing to use their products and/or services over others.  i like to support and promote brands that incorporate some form of sustainability or giving back to humanity or the environment.
